Is the autofocus system on a Nikon D3s superior to the autofocus on a Nikon D300s, and if so, why?
The autofocus system on the D3s might have more options and control. I know its new so the manual has not yet been posted, but I'm hoping somebody might have some insight into this. Thanks!!!
A: Do you have a D3 or D300? If you did, you would know that that ultra fast auto-focus is due to the AF-S lenses, not the camera per se.

Nikon UK, 16 August 2010: Nikon’s D3S professional FX-format D-SLR has won a top award from EISA (European Imaging and Sound Association), claiming the Best European Professional Camera prize. Nikon also came top in the Best European Professional Lens category, which was won by the AF-S NIKKOR 300mm F2.8G ED VR II super-telephoto lens. Robert Cristina, Manager of Professional Products at Nikon Europe comments: “We are delighted that once again a D3 series camera has won the Best European Professional Camera category at the prestigious EISA awards. Based on feedback from our customers, we have built on the success of the D3X, which won the award last year, adding features to the D3S such as HD-quality D-Movie function and a newly designed FX-format CMOS image sensor.” Cristina continued: “The AF-S NIKKOR 300mm F2.8G ED VR II follows the ground-breaking AF-S VR NIKKOR 300mm f/2.8G IF-ED. With a new generation of Vibration Reduction technology (VR II) and a new A/M focus mode, it’s an evolution of the NIKKOR lens that we’re really proud of, and demonstrates Nikon’s commitment to designing products that will keep photographers ahead of the game.” ...

Because of its lack of video capabilities and its relatively low resolution, the Nikon D700 never attained the level of buzz the Canon EOS 5D Mark II did, despite being an excellent camera. With the D800, Nikon looks poised to catch up to, if not overtake, Canon in the hearts and minds of full-frame devotees. With all the information about the D800 having leaked in advance, it's easy to tell what's been most attention-grabbing: the high-resolution sensor and the D800E sibling model, which incorporates a modified low-pass filter system that results in little to no antialiasing. There's no doubt that the combination should appeal to professionals like studio and wedding photographers. However it's notable that the sensor's pixel size is 4.88 x 4.88 microns (compared to 6.4 x 6.4 for the 5DM2) and hits a comparatively low maximum sensitivity of ISO 25,600.
